Master Class with Patrick Bajari
on Econometric Analysis of Collusion
December 11-12 - Beurs van Berlage, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
ENCORE is proud to announce that Patrick Bajari has agreed to teach the ENCORE Master Class 2008. Professor Bajari's econometric work on cartels is world-renowned. This fifth ENCORE Master Class is sure again to become an outstanding learning experience for competition economists.
Course materials and reading list
This is a specialized and intensive one and a half day course on advanced issues in the applied analysis of collusion. Topics will include case studies of collusive behavior and monitoring for possible collusion, particularly in procurements awarded by competitive bidding. The course will include a discussion of relevant methods and applications of these methods to real world data sets. These include screens that can assist in the detection of collusion, modelling approaches to study the effects of cartels and assess antitrust damages.
Targeted audience
The contents will be targeted at a specialized audience of economists, competition lawyers and policymakers interested in competition policy and its enforcement. Included in the discussions will be the broad theoretical framework to gain an understanding of the various types of conduct and their anti-competitive consequences, and presentation of facts and figures and some legal issues. While the course primarily offers hands-on econometric techniques for application in actual competition cases, it will also be a rich source of research ideas for Ph.D. students in Economics and Law & Economics scholars.
