"The Informant" Filmavond
Eind oktober 2009 gaat de langverwachte film "The Informant!" in Nederland in premiere. De avondvullende speelfilm naar het gelijknamige boek van Kurt Eichenwald over het Lysine kartel is geregiseerd door Steven Soderbergh - die eerder de Ocean's films maakte. Matt Damon speelt de klokkenluider. Het is een soort zwarte komedie geworden, en er wordt al stevig on-line gediscussieerd over de vraag of de film de strijd tegen kartels goed gaat doen, of juist belachelijk maakt. ENCORE organiseert in samenwerking met de Vereniging voor Mededingingsrecht een avond om samen met vakbroeders en -zusters uit de mededingingspraktijk, de wetenschap en de advocatuur The Informant! in besloten kring te bekijken en erover na te praten. Zoals eerder de documentaire over de bouwfraude, betreft het een avondvullend programma.
Iedereen is op 4 november a.s. van harte welkom vanaf 18.45 uur (zaal open) in Pathé De Munt in Amsterdam. De film start om 19.00 uur. Na afloop is er gelegenheid voor discussie en een borrel.
Pathé De Munt is gelegen aan de Vijzelstraat 15 te Amsterdam en is met het openbaar vervoer bereikbaar met tramlijnen 4, 9, 16, 24 en 25 (halte Muntplein). ENCORE Fellows and Associates Day
The ENCORE Fellows & Associates Meeting in 2009 took place on March fifth in theatre Tuschinski in Amsterdam.
Maarten Pieter Schinkel (UvA) presented the future plans for ENCORE, followed by a dinner speech: William Kovacic (FTC), Durable Norms, Presidential Transitions, and the Future of US Competition Policy. After that a documentary movie was shown with the title “The Dutch Construction Cartel”. The documentary is a compilation of years of investigating by the journalists of Zembla. The compilation provides an objective image of this historical cartel case.
On December 8th 2006. through speeddating information was exchanged between associates and fellows. These three-minute conversations were a happy reunion between some, renewed acquaintance for others, but above all, the foundation was layed for future cooperation.
Participants continued their conversations afterwards with a drink and all were enthousiastic. ‘Original and playful’ was the general opinion of those present.
ENCORE will continue organizing events for their Fellows and Associates in 2007 to stimulate exchange of knowledge between the researchers and policy makers.

ENCORE, in cooperation with OPTA and TILEC, organized a small-scale symposium to discuss the future of regulation in the emerging and converging markets for electronic communications. The symposium will bring together a group renowned experts from economic, legal, regulatory and technological disciplines.
