Workshops Consumers and Competition
The Hague, workshop December 2005
On December 15, workshop policy papers will be presented on 'Consumer Choices and Welfare Appraisals in the Liberalized Electricity Market and Telecommunications Market'. These policy papers will be commented upon by academics discussants and by a discussant from the consumer organization ('De Consumentenbond').
The workshop will be in cooperation with the 'Kenniscentrum voor Ordeningsvraagstukken' (Ministry of Economic Affairs)
Language is
Dutch.

Rotterdam, workshop February 2005
On February 23, there will be an ENCORE-workshop on 'Consumer Behaviour and the Successes and Failures of Market Liberalization/Competition' at the Faculty of Economics of the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR). Chairman Maarten Janssen (EUR) has invited several outstanding IO-researchers to present a paper. Yongmin Chen (University of Colorado), Michael Waldman (Cornell University) and Jose Luis Moraga (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen) have already accepted the invitation. The papers will be discussed by academics and policy makers. The workshop program will be published on the ENCORE website in December.
Annual Conference 2006
The ENCORE Annual Conference will be the concluding event of our series of meetings and discussions on 'Consumers and Competition' and will take place in The Hague on April 13, 2006. One of the key note speakers will be Michael Waterson (see below), who has recently published some authorative papers on the conference topic.

Visiting: Michael Waterson
Michael Waterson is an ENCORE-visitor on April 12, 2006. He will visit a number of Ministries in The Hague to discuss the policy issues on 'Consumers and Competition'.
ENCORE Brainstorms
In the coming months, ENCORE will organize brainstorm sessions in which ENCORE Fellows and policy makers will discuss urgent policy and competition issues. The first ENCORE brainstorm will take place at the Ministry of Economic Affairs in December and will cover problems in the telecommunications sector. In 2006, ENCORE will organize more brainstorm sessions and brown bag meeting (see item ENCORE in 2006 and 2007).
Seminar
In November or December, the final ENCORE/IO seminar will take place in Amsterdam. More information will be published on the ENCORE-website, as soon as the speaker and paper become available.
EARIE2006
From 25-27 August 2006, the University of Amsterdam will be the host of the 2006 EARIE Annual Conference. ENCORE is one of the sponsors of this event, which will feature 350-400 high-quality papers in the field of industrial organization. Next to the various parallel session the conference features two academic plenary sessions with Ernst Fehr (University of Zurich) and Joe Harrington (Johns Hopkins University), a plenary session featuring EU Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes, and a plenary round-table discussion with Editors of top-IO journals discussing current trends in IO publishing. At the conference, four Young Economists Essay Awards are presented to exceptionally innovative and high level papers by young researchers.
